Let's take, for example, the iPoo app. An app that lets you know who is in the restroom at the moment and where they are in the world.
Also the Zit Picker, which is self explanatory.
But, let's say you are sick and need to know if you should go to class or a doctor. Well, iPoo and Zit Picker won't be able to help.
There is a new application, however, that will.
iTriage is a free application that was created by two doctors, and it is designed to help students search for symptoms, diagnoses, and where to get care.
Healthagen CEO Dr. Peter Hudson believes iTriage helps students immensely.
"Campus infirmaries or student healthcare centers typically don't run 24/7, so having an acute care decision tool easily accessible helps students know what to do and where to go when an accident occurs or an illness develops," Hudson said.
Pre-med sophomore Chandler DeBardeleben, however, believes it is worth the wait for the Student Health Center to open. "I wouldn't use it, because I know I can get adequate care for free in the Student Health Center...I trust them," DeBardeleben said.
The application begins asking whether or not there is an emergency. If there is an emergency, 911 will be called by the press of a button. In the case of non-emergencies, a list of symptoms to choose from pops up.
There is then a list of possible diagnoses and what kind of care is appropriate. Afterward, it gives the nearest emergency departments, urgent care centers and private physicians through GPS coordinates, zip codes or even IP addresses.
The application also sends updates of wait times every 15 minutes via RSS feed for participating healthcare facilities.
Healthagen's iTriage application was first introduced to the iPhone, and has just been made available for the web browsers of the Android, Palm Pre, Blackberry Bold and the Blackberry Storm phones.
The application is also available online at Healthagen's website.
