Submit your paper for a Quill Award

If you've taken an English 1101 and/or English 1102 class in 2009, then you may be eligible for a Quill Award.
This spring, one English 1101 paper will win the English 1101 Quill-Inman Award for 2009, and one English 1102 paper will win the English 1102 Quill Award for 2009.
Each award includes a $100 check, and eligibility for publication in the Honores journal. The winners will also be awarded at the spring 2010 Student Honors Banquet.
The deadline for submission is February 15, 2010, and the submissions are to be turned in at the Department of English, located in Dunlap Hall 303B.
Requirements are as follows:
1. Papers must have been submitted for a grade in English 1101 or 1102 at NGCSU during spring, summer, or fall 2009.
2. Entries must be typed in 12 pt. font, follow MLA format, and be three - five pages.
3. Entries must be clean copies-remove errors, instructor comments, grades, instructor's name, and references to your name.
4. Provide a cover sheet stating your name and contact information (see attached form).
5. Submit five copies, fastened individually with paper clips (no binders).
6. Enter only once.
Judging Criteria are as follows:
1. Papers must meet all minimum requirements for completion of English 1101 or 1102 as outlined on the Department of English's 1101 and 1102 syllabi.
2. Your audience will be members of the English faculty. Your paper's context and purpose must be apparent within the paper.
3. Papers must show evidence of the following:
• Sophisticated critical thinking skills
• Originality of thought/creativity
• Effectiveness of expression
• Persuasiveness
• Polished writing style
