What's the point of finals?

Summer is just around the corner and before students can enjoy the pleasures of a school-free schedule, a daunting cloud rains on their parade: finals.

Every term, students are expected to remember a semester's worth of information in a week's worth of time. Of course this is a simple task because (unlike other university students) North Georgia's students actually learn all the information they are expected to learn, right? Of course.

So, they re-cram the "learned" information their short-term memory inconveniently forgot just to get by for a week of testing.

After an hour into studying, the rebel within yells: What the heck am I doing this for? I've been tested on all this information before. Why do I need to be tested on it again? This is unethical!

Perhaps saying finals are unethical is a bit extreme, but they can seem a little unjustified. And at the rate that tuition is going up, students should be paying their professors to take their finals for them.

Nevertheless, as much as North Georgia students would love to be the only university in the State of Georgia to not have finals, the truth is it's never going to happen.

So perhaps students should choose to think of their finals like the NBA playoffs.

Sometimes when you want to win the playoffs (and get that 5th championship ring), you've got to replay teams that you may have or may not have already beaten.

Every rematch is a second chance and every final is just another opportunity waiting to be seized! So good luck, North Georgia!
